Tea party

A few weeks ago, my work had our annual holiday party at the beautiful Crystal Tea Room. It’s always a glamourous affair that some people like to call our holiday “prom.” Everyone gets dolled up and enjoys cocktails, mingling and dancing. This year, I was completely unprepared. I waited till the last minute to get together my outfit but sometimes, I work best under pressure! I had Recently purchased this great pleated black skirt from Zara so that was an easy piece to start with. I didn’t want to go overly fancy but wanted something fun and still very work appropriate. I loved the idea of staying all black and white so I pulled out this polka dotted blouse also. This wasn’t complete to me though. I sat in front of my closet trying to figure out how I could spice up this simple skirt and blouse when all of a sudden I realized I had totally forgotten this blazer I bought on sale a while back. I knew it would be just the classic final touch. And I wouldn’t be cold at the party! Double whammy. So my holiday look was born. It’s funny how you can always push the things you have when your forced to make it happen! Have you been in this situation before? No time to shop and needed to put something together fast?

Love how this turned out. Hope that everyone is enjoying their holidays. I’m looking forward to my venture up north to visit my dear Morgan for play time at the beach! I’ll be posting per usual this week so make sure to stop by 😉

Aesthetic Alterations - “Work” for me isn’t a corporate thing–being the artist type means needing to stand out ever so much. Since I work with a limited wardrobe, most of which is casual, I generally use a few pieces to spice up the look over and over again. A pair of old wooden wedges picked up in Berlin; a long, elaborate scarf found in India; etc. Having a handful of pieces like that keeps everything fun.

Becca - Kim, you look lovely! I love that you went with something fun and not too fussy for your holiday party. I know at my old office holiday party it was hard to wear something that was appropriate, but still reflected my own personal style.ReplyCancel

Morgan_Lua - Very cute! I usually fall back on things I already own and
then end up disappointed with the way it came together….”if I
only had…” But you look put together and like this outfit was
just meant to be. Get here already! Darn snow storm.ReplyCancel

Amy - Your hair is so pretty curled like that! And I love how
your shoes are not overtly sexy but the whole outfit has a very
sultry vibe. I always feel the need to trot around in 4 inch heels
at a Christmas party but you proved that they are not
    necessary!ReplyCancel

Katy - I really like how you didn’t bow or tie the strings to make
them short. The ties look great long and hanging there. Love the
    look. – KatyReplyCancel

Ashley [Free Honey] - You look fabulous! I feel like I haven’t seen glamazon Kim in a while, but you sure do clean up nice. My work holiday party was just straight from work, so everyone looked pretty much the same as they always do. This is a great look, and black and white is such a sophisticated color palette.
