Travel / Hamilton Island

Excited to finally share a full recap of what we actually did on our honeymoon! Today I am sharing Hamilton Island. Pretty much paradise on earth. Every time I look at these photos a smile just becomes plastered over my face. Mr & Mrs Smith helped me to plan my ultimate honeymoon. Also known as Smith Hotels, they specialize in boutique hotels that all have their own unique cool factor. Going to Australia was a big bucket list item for me. I have always dreamed of visiting the Great Barrier Reef so that is one of the main reasons we selected Qualia for our stay. They call Qualia a “stones throw away” from the Great Barrier Reef. In reality, the more famous parts of the reef are about a 2 hour boat ride. What is amazing is that the same coral and species living out there live around the islands as well making it the perfect place to snorkel without the lengthy boat ride if that is not your thing. I plan to start sharing videos from my travels and below you can get a little peek into your trip! Scroll down for more photos and details on what we did. Hope you enjoy!

HOTEL // Qualia was hands down one of the most beautiful resorts I have had the pleasure of staying. Upon arrival, you are greeted with bubbly and this incredible view in the lobby. Most of the property is pretty open air and you get that vibe when you first walk through the doors. Each room is it’s own little villa so you have a real sense of privacy as you experience the resort. Blake and I took every opportunity to sit by the infinity pool. We never saw more than 10 people at a time on our whole trip here. It was so serene. The whole pool area looked like a postcard. Many glasses of rosé and snacks were enjoyed there.

THE ROOM // The rooms are quiet little free standing villas with each their own little view of water. The outdoor little deck was a great spot to enjoy breakfast before heading to the pool. Fun fact: half of the rooms at Qualia have their own PRIVATE infinity pools. DROOL. No wonder we didn’t see many people at the resort that week. They were all floating in their own private pools. JEALOUS!

FOOD // Everything on the menu was filled with fresh seafood. One of my favorite meals was an alfresco lunch at the Pebble Beach Restaurant with a cold seafood platter… with a side of french fries. Heaven on a plate. We enjoyed most of our meals on the resort but ventured out for 2 meals off the property. See below for what we tried and enjoyed. Travel tip: ALWAYS pre-book dinner reservations before your arrive. Resorts tend to fill up quickly and it’s better to have a bunch to move around or cancel than missing out on a place you want to try.

One Tree Hill: Casual spot to grab a sunset cocktail

Romanos: Contemporary Italian spot right on the marina. We went here for Blake’s birthday and the service was amazing and for all your lovebirds out there, it was quite the romantic spot.

Coca chu: Contemporary South East Asian cuisine. We tried some seafood infused dishes. Very casual cool vibes. This meal was infused with flavor.

ACTIVITIES // While we spent most of our time by the pool, we also had a little “buggy” or golf cart to cruise around the island in. The hotel helped us set up every excursion we wanted to do when we checked into the hotel so we didn’t need to worry about making those plans later in the week. I HIGHLY suggest any time you are headed a resort to pre-book activities so they don’t fill up. Below are some of the things we did!

Hug a Koala: I can’t tell you how much I wanted to SCREAM of excitement when I got to hug a Koala. Just your average morning getting to cuddle this guy just made my heart melt. If you go to Australia, this is a MUST do.

Sunset Cruise: We took a small sunset cruise from the Marina as one of the hotel excursions. It was nice being on a smaller boat with less than 15 people. We sipped on some cocktails as we watched the sun dip down. Have to get out on the water during your trip here. You are surround by water on all sides and it makes for an incredible sunset show.

Snorkel Trip: We were pretty bummed out because we originally were supposed to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef but the weather did not allow it as it was way too windy that day. So instead, the boat took us to some different Reefs off of the Whitsundays islands and it was still just as beautiful. We did a half day snorkel with lunch and cocktails on the boat. We even got to stop at Whitehaven beach to enjoy a little sun and some cocktails of course. We used the EXPLORE group company and were really happy with the experience.

Helicopter Ride / Great Barrier Reef: One of my favorite moments of the trip. Hands Down. Since we did not get to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, flying over it was a chance of a lifetime. Our trip was to fly over the famous Heart Reef and view part of the Reef that naturally formed into a heart shape. We flew through some thunderstorms so the flight was a little bit terrifying but I was SO happy we did it. After flying over the Reef, you fly to a private beach on Whitehaven Beach and land in the sand. Kind of makes you feel like Beyonce for a minute… A little champagne picnic and quick dip in the water. Then they fly you home. TRUELY a must if you visit Hamilton Island.

It was truly a little slice of paradise. I am itching to go back to visit! BIGGEST thank you to Smith Hotels for making our honeymoon EPIC.
