Excited to share another recipe with you in collaboration with KitchenAid®. This time it’s something for anyone with a sweet tooth out there. It’s no secret the hot chocolate is a go-to this time of year but I wanted to mix things up and try something new. When I used to live on the east coast and would visit NYC when I was younger, I always had to be sure to stop by Serendipity. They are famous for their frozen hot chocolates and ever since I had one from there I have been hooked. Since I now live in California very far away, I wanted to bring a little piece of the east coast home in the form of a sweet drink. I experimented with some recipes and this combo worked wonders for me. I also gave my recipe an added twist by using mint hot chocolate mix instead of regular. This recipe does have some wait time between the steps but what I love is that the KitchenAid® Pro Line® Series Blender mixes everything up quickly and perfectly so once you are ready you can serve them up instantly. This recipe is so easy but tastes like it took you hours of mixing different luxe chocolates together. It’s perfect for a girls night in or a great dessert for a dinner party this holiday season. I always top my frozen hot chocolate with a dab of homemade whipped cream. Very important step! If you don’t have the time, just grab a can of whipped cream from the store and call it a day. So without further adieu, here is my recipe. Let me know if you try it out and stay tuned for more recipes.

Frozen Hot Chocolate
serves 4

Ingredients
3 cups whole milk
8 ounces chopped chocolate (I used dark chocolate)
1/2 cup hot chocolate powder (I used Trader Joe’s Mint Hot Chocolate Mix)
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
4 1/2 cups ice
whipped cream for serving (I made it fresh with whipping cream, vanilla, and a little splenda)

Instructions

  1. In a medium sauce pan, combine milk and chopped chocolate over low heat. Heat and stir for about 5 minutes or until the chocolate is completely melted. Wish in the hot chocolate powder until combined and let cool for 5 minutes. Place in the freezer for a few hours or until the top of the mixture is set.
  2. Pour the mixture from the bowl into your blender and add the ice. Blend it up until it’s smooth. Pour into your favorite mugs and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. I always add a straw because it looks so damn cute too. Enjoy!
