Every year for the past 2 years we have headed up to Big Bear Lake with friends and our dogs to enjoy a cozy cabin getaway. Each year we rent a different airbnb and it’s such a fun tradition. Luckily we have had snow each year so far! This trip was extra special because it was Otis’ first snow.

Since we have traveled with Otis quite a few times already, we pretty much have our travel routines down. I think the biggest thing about prepping for a trip is that we need to be way more selective about what we pack. That means.. I need to be more selective. Now instead of worrying about what I pack for myself, I pack for Otis first. Then we pack for Lola, and then ourselves. I will do a post soon sharing what essentials we pack for a road trip with Otis. We did need to bring something to sit Otis in and feed him so we brought our trusty Sit-Me-Up seat. We also needed to figure out what to bring for his bath time and brought this adorable blow up bath that was great because it took up very minimal space in the car. Another important thing was keeping him warm and I was excited to try out the 7amenfant carrier cover to basically wear over the carrier. It kept him so warm so that was a huge win too. So many of you sent me messages about this cover and how amazing it was and it did not disappoint. Highly suggest it if you are traveling or living in cold weather.

Like any trip, things go off track. We had a horrible day leaving Big Bear. We got rear ended again but thankfully the car slid into us at a red light and we were all thankfully okay. Of course after being rear ended just a few months ago… it all seemed a bit too eerie for us. There is nothing as scary as a car accident with your family in the car. But seeing the roads and conditions because of the snow we were so lucky to have come out of it unharmed. It ended up taking us 8 hours to drive home when the trip would normally take 2-3 hours. A rough day for a little baby trapped in his car seat all day long. We stopped a few times to feed him but this much time in the car was tough for everyone involved. Thankfully Lola is also the easiest dog and rolls with the punches and travels well in the car. The only reason I share all this is that while our trip might have looked picture perfect on instagram, always know that life if far from a perfect photo. Did I mention a tree fell on our airbnb the day we were checking in? OH MAN. Life throws some doozies your way but it’s how to you deal with the situations, stay positive and move forward that help you navigate through those tougher times. So while our weekend might have had a rough start and an even rougher end, these photos are a great memory of time well spent taking an adventure. Our initial thought after our car was hit again was that we were never leaving the house again. But you know what? We won’t stop making memories and exploring with our little Oats. This weekend was filled with so much joy and that is something worth traveling for. So for all my weekend warriors, you got this!!!
